Maine Trophy Moose Guide Service

Guy Randlett started exclusively guiding moose hunters in 1996 after having hunted the area since 1974.  From the very beginning it has always been Guy's intention to keep the business small and the overall quality of the experience high.  For most folks, it's a once in a lifetime experience, and everyone working for Maine Trophy Moose ("MTM") realizes this.  No more than two parties will be booked for one season.  We can provide excellent references from many past hunters, some of whom are world-famous.

Trophy Hunting remote areas is what MTM is all about.  We typically advise hunters to refrain from shooting any lesser bulls for those are the trophies of the future.  Our scouting and hunting is done in areas that the average moose hunter will avoid due to lack of vehicular access.  We are looking for bulls with antler spread in excess of fifty inches (50"), large palms, multiple brow tines, and numerous tines on the main palms. Other "Brand X" outfits that book many hunters at a time cannot consistently produce the excellent bulls that we do. They have too many folks to satisfy, and end up shooting alot of bulls that are only half grown. Over time, this has serious negative effects on the overall trophy quality found in their areas. The bulls simply do not live to maturity.

Maine Trophy Moose is a full-service outfit.  Included is a Bangor Airport shuttle, food and lodging, guiding, 4x4 vehicles and any other necessary equipment, and all private land & road use fees.  We also get your trophy from kill site to vehicle (this has been miles in some cases) and take you on to the Maine State tagging station, as well as a butcher and/or a taxidermist.  Furthermore, we'll work hard to make sure that your overall experience is fun and memorable.

Two of our remote lodges have electricity and modern facilities.  Another lodge is more remote, with wood heat and gas and lights in the cabins, outhouses, and modern showers in the main lodge.  Remote tent camps are just that!  You need not really bring anything but your moose permit, clothing, and choice of weapon.  We are determined that you will enjoy not only the hunting, but the camp camaraderie, scenery and general ambience of Maine as well.  We won't let you leave without having had lobster at least once during your stay!

* * * * * HUNT ETHICS * * * * *

All hunts are operated within the guidelines of hunting laws of The State of Maine.  Furthermore, we never use aircraft for scouting or spotting bulls.  All Maine Trophy Moose guides have excellent knowledge of the ways and habits of trophy bulls without resorting to such tactics.

* * * * * TROPHY HUNTING - A Tale of Two Hunters * * * * *

I've emphasized our trophy hunting attitude throughout this website, and this is a policy MTM is committed to.  Larry, a hunter from New York, recently shot a super 51 1/2" spread bull that scored high enough to make the Boone and Crockett record book.  An admitted lifelong meat hunter, Larry confessed that passing up any legal animal was something he'd never done before.  The guide recommended waiting for a better bull when a half-grown one appeared.  Larry swallowed hard and did pass on that one.  The next day he got his B&C bull!  It's not always that simple, and certainly not everyone gets a record bull, but passing up smaller animals is a good start.  Conversely, another hunter the same year shot a fine 45" bull on the first day of his hunt.  I can't say that I blame him a bit for killing this heavy antlered 45 incher.  The interesting part is that before the end of the week he was able to take photos and video of an awesome (and very much alive) bull with a spread in the 55" to 60" range.  We were sure that big bull would show up before long, having seen him several times in the same area during pre-season scouting over the last two seasons.  The fact is, the hunter we had guided in that area the previous year also chose to shoot a lesser bull (47") at the beginning of the week.  Oh well, that big boy will be bigger yet next season.
