Over the years, many "auction permittees" have enjoyed the services of Maine Trophy Moose. Some of them had been to Newfoundland at least once without success. They used the auction to expedite their acquisition of an "Eastern Moose" for their SCI collection. The remote spots of the Wildlife Management Districts ("WMD") we hunt in contain an excellent selection of trophy bulls. Our conservative style insures a good future for trophy bulls in our favorite hunting spots.
Ten Maine moose permits are sold each year to the ten highest sealed bids. Residency or non-residency is not a factor. These permits simply go to the ten people that bid the highest. The funds raised go almost completely to The Maine Youth Conservation School. Each summer nearly 300 youths receive complete scholarships to this week long camp where they learn more about safe hunting, conservation, firearm use and many other skills necessary for safe enjoyment of outdoor field sports. This helps perpetuate our sport.
Sealed bids for the 2012 Maine Moose Auction must be in the hands of Maine Dept. of Inland Fisheries & Wildlife by February 15th. Bids are opened within a few days and winners are notified. Successful bidders are then able to choose their WMD, season and permit type (Bull Only Permit versus Antlerless Only; not too hard to figure!). Bidding fee is a non-refundable $25.00 Bid amount is not due until 30 days after successful bids are opened. Please contact me for more information on this process or for a bid package.
As with all Maine moose permits, the hunter can use his choice of modern long arms, muzzleloader, hand cannon, or bow and arrow. This can be a great way to end up an autumn trip to Maine with all it has to offer. Some folks who inquire about this exclaim that for the cost of the Maine "auction tag" plus the cost of a guided hunt, they could go moose hunting in Alaska. I agree. But with my outfit you are driving to the hunt areas daily, hunting some awesome bulls in fantastic remote scenery, returning by vehicle at the end of the hunting day, eating great homecooked meals, and staying in your own private cabin with modern heat and plumbing. Nor are you subject to schedule changes caused by bad weather and how it may affect flying in the bush. I'd love to go to Alaska myself, but the rigors of the trip may not be for everyone that wants to enjoy a moose hunt.
