Seasons & Hunt Districts
Maine Trophy Moose Guide Service

1. What districts does Maine Trophy Moose operate in?

Wildlife Management Districts 9, 8, & 4. For many years. The lodge is located very close to where these three units come together.

2. Which season is best, September or October?
The season that is best for you and your schedule.  If it doesn't matter, check the boxes for September and October.  If you are a BOW HUNTER, choose only the September season in WMD 4. This will offer you a much better chance at a bull in peak rut.  Gun hunters will have much better long range visibility in October, but September is an excellent time for them as well.

3. 2010 Seasons:  Sept.27 - Oct. 2;  Oct. 11 - 16. I work WMD 4 only for the early season, and will work in 4, 8, or 9 for the late season. Districts 8 & 9 are not open for the early season. All three hold excellent trophies.

4. What about the November Season? Starting in 2010, there will be third week of moose hunting in WMDs 2,3,6,& 11 for the first week of November. These zones are heavily hunted for two weeks in September and October, and there will be very few bull permits for this 3rd week.  I don't work November districts.

5. What is the best Maine Moose WMD?

The one with the best guiding outfit in it. I say that because most all of the WMDs hold some fine trophy bulls, but if you are stuck with an unmotivated, overbooked, and unprepared guide, then luck is the only thing going for you, regardless of your hunt district.

6.  How should I fill out my WMD choices?

For SEPTEMBER ONLY, choose WMD 4. For OCTOBER ONLY or SEPTEMBER & OCTOBER, as follows in this order:  9, 4, and 8. Your overall chance of getting into a WMD that Maine Trophy Moose covers is increased by going with the September & October selection.  Note that Areas 8 & 9 DO NOT have a September season.

7.  Can I improve my chances by selecting certain WMDs?

No.  All non-resident applicants are put into one pool.  As the names are drawn, they are given a permit for the highest WMD of their choice that still has at least one unassigned permit.

8.  How is the trophy bull selection in WMD's 4, 8, & 9?

Excellent, in all three, especially in the less hunted and more remote spots we hunt. We've taken record bulls in all three zones.

9.  What about lodging & lodge location? Why is this a big factor?

Lodging is remote, but not far from the spots we hunt. Electricity is generated on site. Hot showers & flush toilets, too!  All food & lodging is included. Location is a big factor, especially if you get mixed up with an outfit that has to drive for an hour merely to get to the boundary of your permit's district. Not to mention then having to drive further to get to the interior areas with less hunting pressure, and then the return trip in the evening. That's not why you're coming to Maine to hunt moose.
